This policy explains what personal information EventSeas collects, why, who sees it, and the choices you have. We have tried to keep it plain. We do not sell your personal information, and the site does not use advertising or analytics trackers.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Account: your name, handle, email address and password (stored as a one-way hash). You can add a picture, cover image, bio, location, website, social links and interests.
- Listings and activity: events and vessels you create, and the saves, follows, RSVPs, Crew memberships, posts, comments, likes, messages and bookings you make.
- Tickets: your name, email address and the tickets you buy. Your card details go straight to Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
- Host an Event inquiries: what you tell us about yourself, your group and your event.
- Contact messages: your name, email address and what you write when you use the Contact page. We do not store these on the site: they are emailed to our team, and you get a copy. We keep the email only as long as we need it to reply and keep a record of the conversation.
- Claims: the role, message and the evidence you choose when claiming a listing: a business email, the social handle you follow us from, or proof files. Proof files are stored privately and only our team can open them.
- Newsletter: your email address, any interests you pick, and the wording you agreed to and when.
- Age confirmation: if you choose to view Adult pictures, we record that you confirmed you are 18 or over, and when.
Information we collect automatically
- Technical data: your IP address and browser details, used to run the site, limit abuse and keep it secure.
- Location: only when you choose a place or press “Use my current location”. We use it to run that search and do not save it to your account.
- Listing views: a simple count of visits, so hosts can see how a listing is doing.
Cookies and similar storage
We use a sign-in cookie to keep you signed in. Your browser also stores a few small settings for the site: your light or dark choice, events you save while signed out (until you sign in), and whether you have chosen to view Adult pictures. Our spam check, Cloudflare Turnstile, may set its own identifiers to tell people from bots. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.
How we use it
- to run your account, listings, tickets, bookings, Crews and messages;
- to email you what you need: confirmations, receipts, booking updates and, if you allow them, activity notifications;
- to send the Captain’s Log newsletter, only if you asked for it;
- to keep the site safe: preventing spam, fraud and abuse, and enforcing our terms and guidelines;
- to meet legal obligations and to improve the service.
Who sees it
- Other members and visitors: your profile, your listings, your posts and comments, and the Crews you join are public. Events you are attending are shown on your profile unless you switch that off. Saved items are private unless you make them public. Messages are visible only to the people in the conversation.
- Hosts and operators: if you buy a ticket, RSVP, book or message them, they see the details they need: your name, email and order. Hosts must use attendee details only to run their event.
- Service providers who help us run EventSeas: Stripe (payments), Cloudflare (spam protection), our email and newsletter providers, and our hosting provider.
- Maps and search: maps and place suggestions come from OpenStreetMap services, which see your IP address and what you search for. YouTube videos load only when you press play, and YouTube then sees your visit.
- Authorities and others where the law requires it, to protect people’s safety, or in a sale or reorganisation of the business.
Pictures you upload
Pictures are stored in a public media library under random file names. Anyone with the link can open them, so please do not upload anything you would not want others to see. We remove the location data from the photos you upload.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account we remove your saves, follows, plans, posts, comments, likes, messages, notifications and blocks, and unpublish the listings you own. We may keep records of purchases and bookings for as long as accounting, tax and dispute rules require, and information we need to keep the site safe, such as a record of a suspension. Newsletter subscribers are kept until they unsubscribe or delete their account.
Your choices and rights
- Change your profile, privacy switches and email notifications in Settings.
- Download a copy of your data from Settings, or delete your account there.
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link in any issue.
- Block or mute people, and report anything that is not right.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to ask us to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal information, to object to certain uses, and to complain to your local data protection authority. To use these rights, contact us.
Security
We protect your information with encrypted connections, hashed passwords, private storage for sensitive files and limits on repeated attempts. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Where your information goes
Our service providers may handle information in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers.
Children
EventSeas is for adults. You must be 18 or over to have an account, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you on the site or by email. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
